Practitioners of acupuncture call this energy around our bodies Qi (chee). Energy radiates from our bodies and energy supports our bodies. Dr. Dresner is a Chiropractic physician who is also certified in acupuncture

There are many different names for energy used in the cultures of our world.

Remember the StarWars movies where this energy is called, "The Force". That is the best analogy for us to use when discussing the Qi in our body systems.

Qi is the energy which is vital in all living things. Qi is in the tiny, tiny cells of the smallest living organisms to the cells of a huge redwood tree. This energy is vital to our growth, to our being able to do our tasks each day, to us being able to breathe, to work, to play and to rest.

Giovanni Maciocia in "The Foundations of Chinese Medicine" says:

"Qi is the root of a human being. It is the basis of all phenomena in the universe."

Meridians & Your Body

Water is the source of energy on our planet earth. We can not live without water. Water moves on our planet from the rain to the rivers to the seas and oceans. The water wherever it does flow, provides essential life sustaining nourishment to our wonderful planet.

Meridians are like rivers inside of your body. The Qi flows through your meridians transporting life sustaining energy to every one of your cells inside of your body, every muscle, every gland, every organ.

Your Health & Balance

" Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. " ~ World Health Organization ( WHO)

Your good health permits you to meet your obligations and responsibilities each day of your life. It also allows you to work and to play. Your quality of life determines that which you can do with ease in your day to day chores and activities.

A healthy quality of life allows you to live life to its fullest and enjoy the benefits of joy in your life. We take for granted so many seemingly simple actions our bodies take moment to moment every day and it is not until we are in pain or lose the ability to perfom those tasks where we realize how valuable healthy bodies and minds are.

We all face stress in our lives. We experience stress from our environments, our work, our families, our communities which induces stress in all capacities of our bodies and minds: physical, emotional, mental and environmental.

Qi can be balanced to flow freely and when it does, it reduces the stressors in our minds and bodies.

Qi unleashes our own body's power to heal itself and create harmony in our systems.

True health can be achieved. Well-being is within our reach.

Stress and Your Quality of Life

Stress affects different parts of our bodies. Stress wreaks havoc on our immune systems. Whatever the source of the stressors are determines what part our body or mind it affects.

What happens when stress is experiences - the natural energy flow of our Qi is put out of balance. Acupuncture helps to align that Qi balance back into our systems.

Stress affect our meridians and our organ systems. They affect each in a different way. But it all comes down to a blockage of good healthy energy flowing through our body systems.

Imagine for a moment, you are in charge of nourishing a beautiful green plant with bright yellow flowers.

You know that watering this plant is vital to its remaining green and flourishing. So you get your water hose and turn on the water. You then go inside not realizing that your hose has a kink in it. As it gets dark, you go back outside to turn the hose off.

Because you are tired, you go back inside and failed to check the water level to the plant. Actually your plant did not receive any water because of the kink in the hose.

There is a blockage of water being built up inside of the hose. The water can not get out to the plant. If you fail to check the plant day after day eventually the plant will wither from a lack of water.

This is the same thing with blockaged in your energy, in your Qi from stress on your body. The blocking of your natural flow of energy makes it so that your meridians can not recieve the 'water' that is required to support your cells, tissues, muscles, organs and glands.

When you have a blockage like this it translates into symptons.

As you keep going on like this, without treatment and without paying attention to your body and organs, you become prone to disease, pain, stress, anxiety and poor health.

Dr. Dresner is a Chiropractic physician who is also certified in acupuncture. The beauty of acupuncture is you are looked at as a whole being. Most doctors look only at symptoms and ways to alleviate those without looking at your entire being.

By asking questions Dr. Dresner is able to gather information about your conditions, medical history, family history, your lifestyle and your emotional state. He actually takes the time to get to know you and thus, how better to serve your needs in natural health such as acupuncture and chiropractic care.

Acupuncture is using tiny, disposable sterile needles which are placed ever so gently into specific acupuncture points. In fact, most patients don't even feel the needles.

Dr. Dresner never uses the same needles twice. Every needle is sterile.

Do Acupuncture Needles Hurt?

This is the most frequently asked question. You most likely think of this question because of all the times you had shots growing up. Maybe you have been to the dentist and had the needle inside of your mouth that numbs the area around where the dentist is going to work.

Acupuncture needles are very fragile. They are gentle needles. They are also very thin and flexible. They bend easily. They are very light. They kind of look like cat whiskers.

Some patients feel a tiny tingling feeling after the needles are inserted. Most often you will feel a sense of relaxation. There are normal and it means that the treatment is working.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

This depends on your conditons and what you are being treated for as well as your ability to make some lifestyle changes.

Each patient is different. Most of the time a treatment plan of between 4 to 10 visits is good.

In most situtations if your condition is acute you may experience faster results than if your condition is chronic.

The longer you have been suffering with any of the conditions you are being treated for the longer it may take to get your body back on the right path to healing.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

YES, acupuncture is safe.

Acupuncture has been used for over 5,000 years by billions of people. Most of these people have used acupuncture to stay healthy without drugs and surgeries.

The FDA ( U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved acupuncture needles for use by licensed practitioners in 1996.

There are very strict guidelines that those who practice acupuncture must adhere to set down by the FDA.

Acupuncture needles are only allowed to be used one time, they must be sterile and non-toxic and they must be disposed of after use.

Acupuncture and Headaches

Are you one of the 50 million people who suffer from headaches? Headaches come in all sizes and severity. Maybe you get small headaches that come and go or perhaps you suffer from the pain of migraine headaches. Headaches cause all kinds of stress so that does not help especially if you are having stress related headaches! You lose time at work, you lose time in your life because of headaches and you can not enjoy living life on the days you suffer.

Most people run to the drugstore to buy over the counter medicines and pain relievers to deal with their headaches. But did you know that even over the counter drugs have side effects? Pain relievers are only a temporary solution if you can call it that. The medicines either by prescription or over the counter may provide temporary pain relief but the do not address the root cause of your headache.

Acupuncture may be your answer. Many people just like you go to get acupuncture treatments right here in Wellington in order to help deal with the root causes of headaches.

And there are no harmful side effects!

Acupuncture is a holistic whole body approach to your health. Dr Dresner is a chiropractor physician who is also certified to do acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a natural path to relief. Dr. Dresner looks at the factors that may be causing your headaches such as body constitution, emotional health, excessive work hours, exersising and poor eating habits as well as physical trauma and hormone issues.

Headaches can be traced back to their root causes many times. He looks at the time of the occurances, specific symptoms, location and type of pain and other triggers.

Dr Dresner will focus on illiminating the root causes of your pain. To restore your balance and Qi flow, Dr Dresner will use sterile disposable very thin needles. He will place these light weight needles that you can hardly feel along the meridian pathways. He will choose to concentrate on specific organs that connect to the acupuncture points.

Acupuncture is not a quick fix. It is not magic. It is not mystical. But it does work. Give it time. Trust in your sessions. My daughter had horrible migraine headaches. In just one acupuncture treatment from Dr. Dresner, her migraines went away. That is not a usual case. It may take a short time, like a few treatments or it may take longer. Each person is different. Acupuncture and Back Aches

Back pain affects 80% of all people at one point or another in their lives. Did you know that back pain is the #1 reason that people seek medical care?

It seems like wherever I go I run into someone who is either getting surgery on their back and/or neck or they are taking pain medication for relief of back pain. Low back pain is the most common of the places the back pain is experienced and may become a chronic condition.

The bad part is that it is very tough to diagnose and treat back pain. Most of the time you are being given the best opinion about the pain. Don't feel doomed and don't feel like you need to rush into surgery. Surgery itself has all kinds of risks.

Why don't you research and talk to Dr Dresner about natural alternatives to your back pain like Chiropractic care and Acupuncture treatments? These have done wonders for my back pain.

How Back Pain Happens

My back pain started from a car accident.

There are many causes for the pain in your back. Traumatic injury tops the list.

Also, lifting something the wrong way can get your back out of alignment and even injure your back.

Sudden movements can also cause back pain. These all cause stress and strain on your ligaments and your muscles.

Arthritis is a common cause of back pain. Having structural abnomalities in your spine can cause back pain and so can bulging disks between the vertibrae or even ruptured disks which put pressure on the nerve. This causes a lot of pain. There are also mental stress triggers.

As you go through your day you deal with stress. We all deal with stress in different ways but a common way is to put that stress right on your shoulders and back. I have been able to correlate exactly when I am having a stressful day to the pain in my shoulders and back.

Most of the time back pain in traditional medicine is treated with pain medications but more and more the medical profession is seeing the value of chiropractic care and acupuncture treatments.
