The answer is possibly. Not all patients require x-rays however some may. If it is necessary in your particular case we have the ability to take x-rays right here in our office.

MRI or magnetic resonance imaging is a diagnostic test used to help diagnose conditions that x-rays or physical examination alone can not. Chiropractors have the ability to refer you for MRI studies if necessary.  

Each patient is different. Some patients may require multiple treatments to resolve or stabilize their condition. Others may not. If your situation requires more than one treatment, the doctor will recommend a “plan of care” which outlines the type, intensity and frequency of treatment recommended.

Dr. Dresner may use or recommend; Chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage therapy and various modes of physical therapy depending on your condition. He may use one, none or a combination of several modalities.

An adjustment is a procedure performed by a Chiropractor to correct a vertebral subluxation. It is a specific calculated force which may be performed by hand or with specialized instruments. The doctor will utilize a method appropriate for your particular situation.

That sound commonly referred to as an “audible” is NOT your spine or bones rubbing against other bones like many people believe. That sound is created by gas pressure released when the joints are separated. Not all chiropractic adjustments produce an audible. In fact, some adjustments produce no audible sound at all.

Acupuncture has been around for approximately six thousand years. It is the primary type of health care for more than a billion people today. Acupuncture is commonly known for its pain relieving effects and is used effectively for internal disease and psychological conditions.

Ancient Chinese doctors found that there is a network of energy which travels just below the skin. This network sends messages from the skins surface to internal organs, tissues and glands at precise locations called “acupoints”.

There are more than one thousand acupoints on the body which travel in pathways called “meridians”. Energy or Qi (Chi) flows through these meridians and works to influence and harmonize all systems of the body. Due to physical, chemical and mental stresses, this energy can become blocked causing dysfunction in one or more of the bodies systems. By stimulating certain acupoints, in precise sequences, energy can be restored helping the bodies’ natural healing abilities.

Acupuncture treatment is rarely painful as the diameter of an acupuncture needle is barely more than a human hair. Most people describe the treatments as very relaxing and it is not unusual for the patient to fall asleep during treatment.

In our office we use only sterile, single use disposable needles. Needles are used only one time and then properly disposed of. The doctor takes special precaution to use “clean needle technique” which involves specific protocol for ensuring a clean treatment area and sterility. Prior to treatment the doctor will consult with the patient and determine if there are any underlying health conditions that would contraindicate the use of acupuncture.

The number of treatments will vary with different conditions. Chronic problems usually require more treatments than acute problems. However, each individual will respond uniquely. It is possible for some patients to notice improvement after one treatment, while others may not notice any effect until the sixth or eighth visit. Patients with acute problems, who suffered little or no tissue damage, results are often permanent. Chronic conditions which have accumulated throughout the years may exacerbate from time to time and may require booster treatments periodically.

Qi (Chi, qi,) pronounced “chi”; as used in traditional Chinese culture is the active, main part of any living being. Qi is frequently translated as life force, or energy flow. Qi is the central principle in traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture theory. It is not unusual for patients undergoing acupuncture treatment to experience or feel Qi, which is often described as a warming, tingling, flowing sensation as acupoints are unblocked or stimulated.

The number of needles and placement of the needles depends on your particular situation and condition. As a general rule, the doctor will use as few needles as possible to accomplish the desired results. Using fewer needles allows a more direct effect on the acupoints.

The doctor may use modalities like electric stimulation, massage therapy, cupping, nutritional counseling and exercise recommendations to compliment your acupuncture treatment.
